Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) strongly condemns the Azerbaijani authorities for the politically-motivated verdict issued against Azadliq (Freedom) newspaper executive director Faig Amirli. The organisation calls on the authorities to immediately release Amirli and stop harassment of the Azadliq newspaper and its staff. (more…)
The Supreme Court heard satirical poet Tofig Hasanli's cassation appeal at a hearing chaired by Judge Imran Hajigayibov. According to the poet's lawyers, the appeal was not granted. Hasanli was also attending the court session, where he sought the annulment of the lower courts' judgment and his acquittal. (more…)
"Aziz Orujov, head of Kanal13, faces inhuman treatment in Baku Detention Centre," Aziz Orujov's brother Anar Orujov has reported. "Aziz has been banned from walking in the open air. A phone call to his family was interrupted. He was treated inhumanly even when demanding that the window of the room be opened," Anar Orujov noted.

Sabail District Court held another hearing on the criminal case of Faig Amirli. Judge Ms. Aytan Aliyeva presided over the hearing. Baku Court of Appeal has considered an appeal filed by jailed youth activist Giyas Ibrahimov. According to lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova, the appeal was not granted. Ibrahimov had appealed to the court due to the violation of his rights to private correspondence, secrecy, and communication confidentiality. Sabunchu District Court had rejected his complaint. In Baku Court of Appeal, a jury presided over by Judge Vagif Mursagulov heard Afgan Mukhtarli's appeal against the illegal inspection and unauthorised access to his Whatsapp and email accounts, lawyer Elchin Sadigov has said. The court has rejected the appeal. (more…)
11 June - Journalist Aynur Elgunash was interrogated in the Serious Crimes Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office. She told the reporters that she had been questioned as a witness in the criminal case against Afgan Mukhtarli and Meydan TV. "They were also seeking an answer to some statements provided earlier. There are some statements against me. They were checking them with me," Elgunash said.
