INSTITUTE FOR REPORTERS\u2019 FREEDOM AND SAFETY: Azerbaijani Authorities Bear Responsibility the Prominent Journalist Mother\u2019s Death<\/strong> <\/p>\n The Institute for Reporters\u2019 Freedom and Safety (IRFS) condemns the Azerbaijani authorities for deliberately causing the death of Frangiz Huseynova, the mother of the well-known journalist and human rights activist and the Chairman of IRFSMehman Huseynov. She died under strange circumstances in the early hours today, 6 August. <\/p>\n On 15 July, Frangiz Huseynova was hospitalised with a diagnosis of acute cardiac vascular insufficiency, when as a result of a cardiac arrest, suffered a clinical death. After 2 weeks in the intensive care unit, the doctors, despite her weak health, pulled the journalist’s mother out of the state of artificial coma and took her off the ventilator, then transferred her to the intensive cardiology department, where the proper conditions for treating the weakened organism were not provided. <\/p>\n Despite Mehman Huseynov\u2019s plea to the authorities, to allow him to take care of his mother’s health and be with his mother during this tough period, the authorities of Azerbaijan flatly refused to provide this opportunity that could have favorably influenced the restoration of her health, damaged by serious stress and extreme level of anxiety caused by the politically motivated imprisonment of her son Mehman. Frangiz Huseynova died in agony and angst about her jailed son just two days before her 71st birthday. <\/p>\n “The political leadership of Azerbaijan embodied by President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, who personally initiated the imprisonment of their main critic, are responsible for the death of our mother,” said Emin Huseynov, the co-founder and executive director of IRFS, currently in political asylum in Switzerland. “The strange actions of the medical staff in relation to a seriously ill patient on the afternoon of 5 Augusth, increase the suspicions of our family that the Azerbaijani authorities have consistently created a careless atmosphere through the hospital’s medical staff, which led to a sharp deterioration in the health of our mother, resulting in her agonising death. Apr\u00e8s deux semaines dans l’unit\u00e9 de soins intensifs, les m\u00e9decins, malgr\u00e9 sa sant\u00e9 fragile, ont sorti la m\u00e8re du journaliste de l’\u00e9tat de coma artificiel et l’ont enlev\u00e9e de l\u2019appareil respirateur artificiel, puis l’ont transf\u00e9r\u00e9e dans le d\u00e9partement de cardiologie intensive o\u00f9 les conditions n\u00e9cessaires pour traiter son organisme affaibli n’ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 fournis. En d\u00e9pit de l’appel de Mehman Huseynov aux autorit\u00e9s pour lui permettre de s’occuper de la sant\u00e9 de sa m\u00e8re et de rester avec lui pendant cette p\u00e9riode difficile, les autorit\u00e9s azerba\u00efdjanaises ont cat\u00e9goriquement refus\u00e9 de fournir cette opportunit\u00e9, qui aurait pu influencer favorablement l\u2019\u00e9tat de sa sant\u00e9 , bless\u00e9e par de graves tensions et des inqui\u00e9tudes \u00e0 cause de l’arrestation de son fils pour des raisons politiques.
