[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today, the Baku Court of Appeal considered a complaint against the arrest of a member of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan under the Movement “Democracy 1918” Elvin Mustafayev. During the trial, Mustafayev rejected the charge against him. The defense pointed to the violation of Mustafayev’s rights during the detention and the lack of reliable primary evidence of his guilt. However, the court dismissed the complaint.<\/p>\n
The defense will file a new petition to change the measure of restraint to house arrest, said the head of the Movement “Democracy 1918” Ahmed Mammadli. Mustafayev was detained on August 4. Three days later, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that he had been subjected to pre-trial detention for a period of 4 months on charges of committing acts under Article 234.4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n
The “Democracy 1918” Movement believes that in fact Mustafayev’s arrest is connected with the activity of the couriers’ Trade Union Association and in particular their protest action on August 1.<\/p>\n
On the same day, Afiyaddin Mammadov, the head of the Confederation of Trade Unions under the “Democracy 1918” Movement, was detained.
