The court found him guilty of  large-scale drug trafficking  and sentenced him to 9 years and 9 months in prison. Ismayilov was arrested on February 1, 2023 during the next wave of arrests of religious activists against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MUM announced the falsification of the charges against Ismayilov, and human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.
