[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Baku\/04.12.23\/Turan: On December 4, activist and former police officer Ilhamiz Guliyev was detained in Baku.
\nAs lawyer Zibeyda Sadygova told Turan, Guliyev is being held in the Yasamal district police department as a suspect.
\nHe is charged under Art. 234.1 (drug trafficking), under which he faces up to 3 years in prison.
\nOn December 5, Guliyev will appear in court in connection with the investigation\u2019s request for his pre-trial detention.
\nIn October, Guliyev was already administratively arrested for 30 days on charges of \u201cpetty hooliganism\u201d and \u201cfailure to obey the police.\u201d
\nThis comes after he gave an interview to Abzas Media in which he spoke about how police authorities use \u201cundocumented drugs in political arrests.\u201d
\nAccording to human rights activist Rufat Safarov, despite the fact that Guliyev\u2019s voice in the interview was changed by a special program, experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs established the identity of the speaker.
\nGuliyev knew that he would be arrested on false charges and underwent a drug examination in advance, which confirmed that he was not a drug user.
\nAccording to Safarov, in the last two years, within the framework of the project
\nUSAID (US Agency for International Development) Guliyev provided legal assistance to residents of the Agdam region.
