This ruling not only jeopardizes Sadigov\u2019s life but also represents a stark violation of Georgia\u2019s international human rights obligations. IRFS warns that this decision enables political persecution and raises grave concerns over the use of Azerbaijan`s state machinery to silence dissenting voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sadigov, a vocal critic of the Azerbaijani government and its systemic corruption, sought refuge in Georgia in December 2023 after facing persecution in Azerbaijan. Despite applying for asylum, he was arrested in Tbilisi on August 3, 2024, following an extradition request from Azerbaijan. While Azerbaijani authorities accuse him of extortion, human rights organizations have documented evidence of politically motivated charges aimed at silencing independent journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court&#8217;s ruling, issued by Judge Arsen Kalatozishvili, disregarded Sadigov\u2019s deteriorating health due to his ongoing hunger strike, now at 68 days. Since September 21, 2024, Sadigov has been protesting his detention and denial of asylum, with his condition deteriorating to the point of requiring hospitalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We regretfully acknowledge Georgia&#8217;s failure to uphold the principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits returning individuals to countries where they are likely to face torture or persecution. Sadigov\u2019s extradition sets a dangerous precedent, enabling political pressure to override the fundamental protections afforded to asylum seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IRFS calls on Georgian authorities to immediately reverse this decision and prioritize Sadigov\u2019s safety, emphasizing the critical role of press freedom in democratic societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, IRFS urges the international community to intervene, underscoring the need for Georgia to reaffirm its commitment to human rights and reject complicity in
