On March 3, it became known that oppositionist Niyameddin Akhmedov, convicted in Azerbaijan, went on a hunger strike in protest against being placed in solitary confinement. Before that, his relatives made public the ban on telephone conversations that Akhmedov had been placed under in the colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Niyameddin Akhmedov was sentenced to 13 years in prison on October 8, 2021, on charges of financing terrorism, calling for a fight against the state, and illegal trafficking of prohibited items. Akhmedov himself stated that the case was fabricated. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Akhmedov has been in solitary confinement for 23 days now, and he has been on a hunger strike all this time, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Kerimli reported on his Facebook page* on March 21.
