{"id":31123,"date":"2025-09-27T11:52:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T11:52:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.irfs.org\/?p=31123"},"modified":"2025-09-27T11:52:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T11:52:14","slug":"court-denies-aziz-orujev-early-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.irfs.org\/az\/news-feed\/court-denies-aziz-orujev-early-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Denies Aziz Orujev Early Release"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Surakhani District Court of Baku considered the petition for <strong>parole<\/strong> (early release) on <strong>September 25<\/strong> for <strong>Aziz Orujev<\/strong>, the head of Kanal-13 Internet television, who is being held in correctional facility No. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the journalist&#8217;s relatives, despite receiving a <strong>positive character reference<\/strong> from the prison management\u2014which confirmed Orujev&#8217;s adherence to the institution&#8217;s internal rules\u2014and the journalist&#8217;s <strong>long-term treatment<\/strong> in a penitentiary service medical facility, the court denied his application for parole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should be noted that Orujev has only <strong>2 months and 2 days<\/strong> remaining until the completion of his sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aziz Orujev, the head of Kanal-13 Internet television, has been under arrest since <strong>November 2023<\/strong>. Orujev and the channel&#8217;s employee, Shamo Eminov, were initially accused of <strong>currency smuggling<\/strong>, but they denied the charges. Following the preliminary investigation, the charge of currency smuggling was dropped against Orujev, leaving only the charge of <strong>illegal construction<\/strong>. In <strong>February 2025<\/strong>, he was sentenced to <strong>2 years<\/strong> of imprisonment.
