The journalist’s detention was extended until December 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ulviyya Ali considered speaking in her own defense pointless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead, the journalist recited a poem about a rooster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This poem has as much relation to the court as the accusation against me,” said Ali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Journalist Ulviyya Ali (Guliyeva) was detained and arrested in May as a defendant in the Meydan TV case. She rejected the smuggling charge and noted that she does not cooperate with that publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Meydan TV case was initiated in December 2024, when six journalists were detained, and then arrested and charged with currency smuggling by a group of persons in collusion. They linked the criminal case to their professional activities. By August 2025, 11 people had been arrested in the Meydan TV case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In late August, it became known that the investigation was complete, and a 12th suspect appeared in the case – photojournalist Ahmed Mukhtar.
