PRISONERS NOT GIVEN SOME NEWSPAPERS

Yesterday in the Baku Appellate Court a complaint against the Justice Ministry and the Peniteniary System due to the conditions in which imprisoned former Minister of Health Ali Insanov is kept took place.

According to today’s edition of “Azadlig” Newspaper, Insanov’s lawyer Shahverdi Aghaveyis told the court, “Ali Insanov is not given an opportunity to read the opposition press. He wants to read ‘Azadlig’ and ‘Yeni Musavat’ Newspaper.”
In response to this, Peniteniary System representative Aghamammed Mammedov said that some newspapers are not given to prisoners because secret information could be planted there. Mammedov said that he heard that Ali Insanov believes it is an insult to himself to given “Khalg Newspaper” (a pro-government newspaper) to read. According to him, this is “unfortunate.”
