LAWSUIT OF ELECTION MONITORING AND DEMOCRACY EDUCATION CENTER AGAINST JUSTICE MINISTRY ACCEPTED FOR CONSIDERATION

Today, 21 August, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of judge Ragib Gurbanov, a preliminary hearing was held on the lawsuit of Election Monitoring and Democracy Education Center (EMDEC) against Azerbaijan Republiic’s Justice Ministry to “consider the refusal by the ministry to register the NGO unfounded and in connection with violation of association.”

During the hearing the lawsuit was accepted for consideration and the next hearing on this case was scheduled to take place on 31 August at 11:00 a.m.
EMDEC’s documents submitted on 26 January 2009 to the Justice Ministry’s Registration and Notaries Chief Department were returned on 29 April 2009 noting that they were not in order. The founders of EMDES evaluated the actions of the Justice Ministry as contradictory to the law and filed a lawsuit against the Justice Ministry in the Yasamal District Court. The Yasamal District Court rejected the lawsuit three times.
