ANNE DERSE: “I HOPE PROBLEM REGARDING RADIO STATIONS WILL BE SOLVED”

Today, 26 January, during a press conference, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse touched on the issue concerning the ban of foreign radio stations from FM frequencies. According to “Radio Liberty,” Derse emphasized that it is possible to solve the problem through an intergovernmental agreement and she is hopeful that the issue will be solved positively.

“Recommendations have been submitted to the Azerbaijani government about this and we are waiting for an answer,” said Derse.

The broadcasts of "Radio Liberty", "Voice of America" and BBC via FM frequencies in Azerbaijan were ceased on 1 January 2009 on the basis of a decision of Azerbaijan's National Television and Radio Council that was issued on 30 December 2008.
