Azerbaijan Airlines demands Yeni Musavat newspaper to pay 500 000AZN in compensation

Azerbaijan Airlines closed joint-stock company (AZAL) has filed a lawsuit against the Yeni Musavat newspaper. Vagif Huseyn, the lawyer of the newspaper, reported to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) about it today.

According to Huseyn, AZAL is asking the court to fine the newspaper for its article titled “AZAL has fulfilled state orders, which cost billions of manats, without tenders” printed on May 10th 2012 issue of the newspaper: “The appeal has been submitted to Nizami District Court. The preparatory meeting of the court has been scheduled for July 4th. Judge Ziya Aliyev will consider the case”.

The Yeni Musavat newspaper has been published as of 1989 and has one of the largest circulations among Azerbaijani newspapers.
