CPJ CONDEMNS DECISION ABOUT BRINGING AGIL KHALIL TO COURT FORCEFULLY

Yesterday the Committee to Protect the Journalists (CPJ) disseminated a statement about the decision of the Nasimi District Court to bring “Azadlig” newspaper Agil Khalil to court forcefully.

"With this ruling, the Azerbaijani court system has effectively sanctioned the authorities' illegal ban on our colleague Agil Khalil's freedom of movement. This fits into a disturbing pattern of harassment by the state against Khalil. We call on the Nasimi District Court in Baku to show its independence from state pressure, and start treating him as a plaintiff instead of a defendant," it is stated in the statement.
