EUROPEAN COURT REVIEWING TWO JOURNALISTS’ CASES

The European Human Rights Court has sent an information request to Azerbaijan Government related to complaints put forth by “Turan” Information Agency correspondent, Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Sarvan Rizvanov and “Boz Gurd” newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ramiz Najafli.

Lawyer Intigam Aliyev announced during a press conference organized by the Institute for Peace and Democracy and Azerbaijan Lawyers’ Association. According to Intigam Aliyev, in 2005 Rizvan Sarvanov was subjected to physical violence by Yasamal District Police department employee Chingiz Mammadov. Aliyev noted that enough evidence, including photos and recordings, have been sent to the European Court. Aliyev noted that, “Ramiz Najafli was beaten while reporting on political opposition rallies.”
