HEARING ON EYYUB KARIMOV`S APPEAL TO BE CONTINUED ON 13 MAY

Today, 6 May, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Abid Abdinbayov, a hearing was held on the appeal of Femida 007 Newspaper Editor-in-chief Eyyub Karimov against the verdict of the Yasamal District Court issued on 23 February on the basis of Internal Affairs Minister Ramil Usubov’s lawsuit.

E.Karimov objected to the announcement board in front of the Appellate Court stating that his father’s name was written incorrectly there, and he considered this was insult against him. A.Karimov said that he will file a cassation complaint against the decision that was issued on 8 April 2010 to not fulfill motions he filed during the hearing.  He demanded to postpone the hearing because the time period to file the cassation complaint is until 8 May.
The Judge scheduled the next hearing on this case for 13 May at 11:00 a.m.
On 8 April, A.Karimov filed a motion to annul the decision issued by the Yasamal District Court, to send the case back to the Yasamal District Court  to be reconsidered and to consider the case with court investigation given that it will be considered. However, the judge did not fulfill the motion.
Internal Affairs Minister Ramil Usubov filed a lawsuit against Eyyub Karimov under article 147.2 of the Criminal Code due to articles “Letter fancier,” and “NSM and Chief Prosecutor’s Office know well who ordered it,” which were published in Femida-007 newspaper; and “Internal Ministry inside and outside of the game” published in Azadlig newspaper. On the basis of this lawsuit the Yasamal District Court sentenced Eyyub Karimov to 1.5 years of corrective labor, and he has to pay 15% of his salary to the government.
