JANUB TV CHANNEL OPERATOR SERIOUSLY INJURED

Today the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety spoke via telephone with Janub TV channel administration related about a brutal attack on one of the channel’s employee/ employee.

The TV channel’s news department chairman Bakhtiyar Akhundov told IRFS, “In yesterday’s incident operator Elchin Azizov’s hand was seriously injured and he cannot move it. And the correspondents-Nurlan Nasirova and Elvin Rahimli (ed. who were with Azizov)–were not injured, their health is normal”.  

Akhundov also noted that today the TV channel administration appealed to the Lankaran District Police Department about the incident and all three employees from the TV channel have already been interrogated. “We were told that, the opposite side will be also interrogated and prompt actions will be taken,” said Akhudov.  

Janub TV” Administration has also appealed to Lankaran Electricity Energy Supply LLC Director Shirin Guliyev. “Masalli Electricity Distribution is under the command of that LLC,” said Akhundov. “Shrin Guliyev noted that, he’ll investigate the matter and inform us of the result”.  

Recall that, yesterday (January 16) three correspondents from “Janub TV” tried to learn Masalli Electricity Distribution Network chairman Allahverdi Ismayilov’s response to a complaint from residents of the villages Damirchi and Badalan in the Masalli region about poor electricity supply. Ismayilov didn’t allow the TV crew to film and beat Azizov with a chair when he tried to secretly film the Masalli Electricity Distribution Network chairman.
