LAWSUIT AGAINST FIKRET FARAMEZOGLU REJECTED

Today, 9 February, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Rahman Mirzayev a complaint of the basis of the Yasamal District Court’s 27 September 2008 verdict on the lawsuit of “Ganj Vetenparvarlar” (Young Patriots) Movement Chairman Fikret Faramezoglu against “Elchi” Newspaper Chief Editor Ali Haziguliyev was conducted.

Fikret Faramezoglu was participated in the hearing.
Farazmezoglu said the article “Honesty Lesson for the Dishonest,” published in 4 February 2008 edition of “24 Saat” Newspaper, which he was editor-in-chief of at that time, was a response to the chief editor of “Elchi” Newspaper. “Ali Haziguliyev wrote an article including untrue information about him and his family,” said Faramezoglu. “In response to this I wrote the article ‘Honesty Lesson for the Dishonest.’ The Yasamal District Court, taking into consideration the this article contained no insults, did not fulfill Ali Haziguliyev’s lawsuit.”
Noting that this is the second time that no one has come to court on behalf of Haziguliyev, and stating that Haziguliyev’s appeal was unfounded, Judge Mirzayev did not fulfill the claim.
This hearing was conducted in Judge Mirzayev’s office, and he did not grant the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety permission to photograph or film any of the process.
