PRESS COUNCIL STUDYING PRICES FOR NEWSPAPER

Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov reported to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the Press Council is conducting a study of the paper market to assess the validity of claims that prices are increasing.

According to Amashov, such a price increase could occur due to an increase in newspaper circulation and the publication of new papers in the run up to the 2008 presidential elections. The Press Council Chairman added that another goal of the study determine the effect that supposed paper price increase has on newspapers. The study is scheduled conclude in the next day or two, and results be discussed by the Press Council on Monday.
