ALERT: Avaz Zeynalli’s health is deteriorating

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) is alarmed by reports of the deteriorating health of Khural newspaper chief editor Avaz Zeynalli who is currently serving a pre-trial detention. IRFS considers Zeynalli to be detained in violation of Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) (more…)

Alert: Prosecutor asks for an 11-year sentence for Avaz Zeynalli

IRFS is deeply troubled over the public prosecutor’s request for a lengthy jail sentence for arrested Khural newspaper chief editor Avaz Zeynalli. As such, on February 13th the Baku Grave Crimes Court held a hearing on the case of journalist Avaz Zeynalli. Investigation into Avaz Zeynalli’s case completed

The trial of Khural newspaper chief editor Avaz Zeynalli was reopened in the Baku Grave Crimes Court on February 6th. Judge Ramella Allahverdiyeva presided over the hearing.   Justice Ministry expert Farzikhan Jafarov, who was invited to testify as a witness regarding the tax evasion charge filed against Zeynalli, said that he had examined the results of the tax audit carried out by the Ministry of Taxes in the office of the Khural newspaper.
