Additional charge brought against human rights activist Hasan Huseynli

On April 24, a new charge was filed against the prosecuted leader of the Ganja-based “Intelligent Citizen” Enlightenment Center, Hasan Huseynli, as he personally told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) today.

According to Huseynli, the additional charge was brought under Article 228.4 of the Criminal Code (illegal possession of a cold weapon) and called it the follow up of the false case.

“According to the forensic opinion knife is a cold steel, and due to this a further charge was brought against me besides the one under Article 221.3. I was questioned again in the presence of my lawyers and repeated my previous statement that I do not consider myself guilty. I think the investigation will end next week”, human rights activist.

Huseynli’s defense lawyer Alayif Hasanov told the IRFS that his request for disqualification of the present investigator was not granted by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The lawyer also added that the complaint against Hasan Huseynli’s illegal confinement will be heard in Nizami District Court of Ganja on April 28.

Note that Hasan Huseynli was detained on March 31, 2014 and was held in Kapaz District Police station detention facility. He is charged with stabbing Arzu Gahramanov. Gandja City Main Police Office has opened a criminal case under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism committed with use of a weapon). A restraining order has been imposed on Huseynli, which requires him not to go elsewhere without permission while under investigation.
