Yesterday members of the Council of Europe Cabinet of Ministers’ “AGO” Group conducted a press conference at the conclusion of their trip to Baku.
During the press conference, leader of the group Per Syorgen expressed concern about attacks on journalists in the country. He said that the main goal of this trip was to comprehensively learn about the mass media situation. “One of the issues we touched on was criminal responsibility for journalists due to defamation, and the other was reviewing the law ‘On Tele-radio Broadcasting.’”
Syorgen, who met with some of the imprisoned journalists, said, “They gave us information about their health, the conditions of their detainment, and their arrests. And we conveyed all of this information to government circles. The issues with the journalists greatly concern us, and it is important for the court to comprehensively review their cases.”
