APPEAL FILED AGAINST MURDER OF RAFIG TAGI

The Nasimi District Court has returned an appeal filed by Rafig Tagi`s family to the Grave Crimes Investigation Department at the General Prosecutor Office.

Lawyer Elchin Sadigov reported that during the scheduled preliminary court hearing on 25 January, Judge Shahin Abdullayev said that the hearing had been “scheduled by mistake” and so appeal was sent back. Elchin Sadigov told “mediaforum” website that he has filed an appeal against this decision.
The appeal claimed that there has not been an effective investigation of the fatal stabbing of Rafig Tagi, and alleges that the doctors involved in his treatment acted irresponsibly.

On 19 November 2011, writer-journalist Rafig Tagi was stabbed near his home as he was returning home from work. On 23 November, Rafig Tagi died in the intensive care unit of the Clinical Center. Nobody has been apprehended for the crime. The Grave Crimes Investigation Department has received the criminal case, and an investigation was launched under Article 120.1 of the Criminal Code: deliberate murder.
