APPEAL TO BE MADE TO COURT REGARDING GANIMAT ZAHIDOV’S MANUSCRIPTS

Yesterday (29 June) Ganimat Zahidov’s family visited him in the Prison #17.

Zahidov’s wife Ayanda Mursaliyeva told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that they haven’t received any reply to the appeal they sent to the Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service concerning the manuscripts of a book that Zahis was trying to write in Bayil Prison #1, and this bothers him. Mursaliyeva said that they are thinking about filing a lawsuit in the court.

Mursaliyeva also noted another issue which concerns G. Zahid.  “Ganimat told me that he wanted to appeal to the Justice Ministry about the prisoners arrested on drug charges. He wants to request that a special prison to be opened for the prisoners of this kind so they can be treated there and then released in a healthy state when their prison term is over,” she said.

Mursaliyeva noted that Zahid didn't complain about prison conditions or about the attitude of the prison administration towards him.

Recall that Bayil Prison Head Misir Aliyev took the handwritten several-hundred page long manuscript from Zahid, claiming he wanted to read it. The book is about the modern history of Azerbaijan. Later Aliyev refused to return the manuscript, claiming that the book contains writings against Heydar and Ilham Aliyev. M. Aliyev also said that he gave the manuscripts to the Chief Department of Court Decisions Services of the Justice Ministry.
