Appellate Court upholds the decision to deny registration of NGO

Nemət Orucov

On January 29th the Baku Appeals Court under judge Elmira Nagiyeva denied journalist Nemat Orujov’s appeal against the October 24, 2012 decision of Baku Administrative-Economical Court #1, which had denied the journalist’s lawsuit filed against the Justice Ministry’s Registration and Notary Office for the latter’s refusal to register the Public Union “Center for Protecting the Interests of the Society”.

This was reported to the IRFS by the journalist’s legal representative Yashar Agazadeh.

Agazadeh said that they would file a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court against the January 29th decision, and if they fail to achieve their purpose within the country, they’ll take the matter to the European Court of Human Rights.
