The date for the trial of imprisoned Khural editor-in-chief Avaz Zeynalli has been set. According to Zeynalli’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov, the hearing will be held on May 14th in the Baku Grave Crimes Court. Judge Ramella Allahverdiyeva will preside over the hearing.
The Anti-Corruption Office launched a criminal case against Zeynalli following a lawsuit by MP Gular Ahmadova under article 311.3.3 (taking a large bribe) and article 311.3.4 (extortion). On October 28th 2011 Nasimi District Court sentenced Avaz Zeynalli to 3 months of pre-trial detention. On January 17th 2012, his prison term was extended for 3 months.
