Today, 17 March, imprisoned Azadlig Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ganimat Zahid was pardoned under a pardon decree signed by Azerbaijan Republic President Ilham Aliyev.
According to “AzərTAc” information agency, 62 prisoners will be released under the pardon decree. In addition, 1 person, whose punishment was annulled, was pardoned. 7 people were freed from the part of their punishment that was not served. One person’s sentence to life was substituted by 20 year sentence. There’s one person sentenced to fine punishment who was also pardoned.
Ganimat Zahid was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years.
