AZERBAIJAN RANKED 79TH AMONG 194 COUNTRIES IN “PRESS FREEDOM INDEX”

In the report of the Freedom House on “Press Freedom-2010”, Azerbaijan was ranked 79th out of 194 countries, according to Radio Liberty. Azerbaijan is again behind its neighbors for the “press freedom index,” but its neighbors are ahead – Georgia was ranked 59th, and Armenia was ranked 66th.

Freedom House noted that there was lagging in the field of press freedom in most regions of the world last year. This lagging has been going on successively for 8 years. According to the global investigation on press independence, one in six people in the world live in a country where there’s press freedom.
According to the report, press freedom is strangled in the Post Soviet Union countries; Russia still remains a dangerous country for the media. These indicators have been worsening down in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the report of the Freedom House, Azerbaijan is between Tajikistan and Russia for the press freedom index.
