Azerbaijan Republic responded to European Broadcasting Union in connection with summoning of people to the National Security Ministry for voting for Armenian singer during Eurovision Contest 2009.

According to Radio Liberty citing “Eurovision TV,” the European Broadcasting Union’s collaborator in Azerbaijan, Public TV, stated that the TV channel has been faithful to its commitments regarding free and fair voting. Public TV told EBU that although two persons were summoned to the National Security Ministry, the ministry guaranteed that nobody is questioned either officially or non-officially in connection with voting during the contest.
European Broadcasting Union Head Director Jan Revillon said that he considered the statements, but noted that freedom to vote for any song except your own country’s song is one of the cornerstones of the contest. “Any violation of the rights to anonymous voting or questioning of the individuals regarding voting is completely unacceptable,” said the director.
