BAKU CITY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE RELEASES A STATEMENT IN REGARDS TO KHADIJA ISMAYILOVA

Baku City Prosecutor’s Office released a statement on Friday in
regards to Khadija Ismayilova.

The documents says that a criminal case
on violation of the journalist’s right to privacy of life has been
opened and that a comprehensive and objective investigation is carried
out. The document goes on to say that, despite the above-mentioned
facts, Khadija Ismayilova and her lawyer Adil Ismayilov talk to
public, saying that no investigation is underway.

On March 7th, Ismayilova received an envelope in the mail containing
intimate pictures of her private life. On March 17, Yeni Azerbaijan,
the  official media outlet of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party,
newspaper has also published an article attempting to defame
Ismayilova. The next day, a full video showing Ismayilova was released
on a newly created website

The statement of Baku City Prosecutor’s Office comes two days after a
press conference attended by Ismayilova and his colleagues publicized
the report of a journalistic investigation group on the smear campaign
launched against her.
