CORRESPONDENT OF “NONSENS” NEWSPAPER CLAIMS TO BE THREATENED

The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety (IRFS) was told that Nonsense newspaper Aran regional correspondent Ilham Suleymanov was allegedly subjected to threats.

According to Nonsens newspaper founder and Editor-in-chief Fikrat Faramazoglu, the newspaper’s correspondent I.Suleymanov wrote an article titled “The residents of the region protest,” on the basis of a complaint by a group of residents of Mollavaizli village where he represented arbitrary cases that happened in the village.
“Saatli region Executive Administration Head Siraceddin Jabbarov called the same residents and threatened them,” said Faramazoglu. “Then he received accounts from the residents against the correspondent of the newspaper. Our correspondent was invited to the regional procurators’ office on the basis of this account. I.Suleymanov presented a complaint letter to procurator’s office that was sent by the same residents.”
F.Faramazoglu added that the correspondent was threatened not to write critical articles about Saatli region.
Saatli region procurator’s office representative Agayeva (she refused to give her name) refused to connect IRFS with authoritative representatives of the procurator’s office and said that the journalist in fact was never invited to the procurator’s office.
Calls to Saatli region Executive Administration were not responded to.
Nonsens began operating in July 2009 and is published once a week.
