Yesterday (April 24), the Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Rasul Safarov, conducted a hearing on an appeal filed by “Kriminal Alem” Newspaper Chief Editor Mehrali Isganderov.
Isganderov is trying to have the Yasamal District Court’s verdict on Public TV Regional Correspondent Amina Rahimova lawsuit for insult and libel against him overturned.
Judge Safarov adopted a decision to uphold the lower court’s decision.
Isgendrov called the decision unjust, and told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that he will now file a complaint in the Supreme Court.
Recall that last year Isgenderov was sentenced to one year of corrective labor on the basis of Rahimova’s lawsuit.
