COURT TO SEND INFORMATION INQUIRY TO PENITENTIARY SERVICES

Today, 10 March, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Elnur Hasanov, a hearing was held on the lawsuit of "Mukhalifat" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Rovshan Kabirli and the newspaper's Department Editor Yashar Agazade against the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Justice's Penitentiary Services and Penitentiary Services' Investigative Detention Center #1 (Bayil Prison).

Rovshan Kabirli said that conditions in cell #80 in Bayil prison #1 were very bad when they were held there in 2007 from 18 May to 28 August. The prisoners did not go through medical examination, they were not given beddings, and conditions were not created for the prisoners to meet with their defense lawyers according to legislation.
Then the newspaper's Department Editor Yashar Agazade spoke and said that he agreed with Kabirli’s statements. Agazade emphasized that the size of detention cells in the Yasamal District Court was small and conditions were not normal.
After the speeches, Judge E. Hasanov stated that they will send an information inquiry to the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary services about the size and condition of the detention cells.
The next hearing on this case is now scheduled to take place on 30 March at 2:30 p.m.
Mukhalifat" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Rovshan Kabirli and the newspaper's department editor Yashar Agazade have been held in the Investigative Detention Center #1 for five months in 2007 due to a lawsuit filed against them by J. Aliyev.
