DOCUMENTARY TO BE MADE ABOUT EYNULLA FATULLAYEV

Norwegian television producer Erling Borgen will make a documentary about imprisoned Editor-in-Chief of “Gundelik Azerbayjan” and “Realnıy Azerbaydjan” newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev.  The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by the journalist’s father Emin Fatullayev.

“I met with E.Borgen during my visit to Oslo, Norway, with journalists who received the Prize for Press Freedom,” said Emin Fatullayev. “Borgen said that he wants to make a documentary about E.Fatullayev. The same producer made a film about slain Editor-in-chief of ‘Monitor’ Journal Elmar Huseynov, and Eynulla’s views were reflected in that film. However, Eynulla was arrested when the first part of the documentary was over.”
"Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realniy Azerbaijan" newspapers' editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on 21 April 2007 for insulting honor and dignity.  Later he was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment on 30 October 2007.
