The complaint regarding the return of the lawsuit filed by Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Chairman Emin Huseynov against the Ministry of Interior, Nasimi District Police Department, and Nasimi District Police Department’s Unit #22 about police pressure will be considered in the Appellate Court.

Yesterday (26 August) Emin Huseynov received a letter from the Baku Appellate Court. It is indicated in the letter that the appeal complaint of Huseynov Emin Rafig oglu and his representative filed against the Nasimi District Court decision (25 July 2008) will be considered in the Appellate Court on 2 September 2008 at 10:30 a.m.
These lawsuits and complaints stem from 14 June incident in which Huseynov was subjected to police pressure during an event in the “Alaturka” Restaurant organized to mark the 80 birthday of Cuban revolutionist Che Guvera. Police raided the event and subjected Huseynov to physical pressure in the police station after he was detained. As a result, Huseynov, who lost consciousness, was hospitalized for more than 20 days, and is still continuing outpatient treatment.
On 24 July Huseynov filed lawsuits against the Ministry of Interior, Nasimi District Police Department and Nasimi District Police Department’s Unit #22, however Nasimi District court returned the case. Huseynov filed a complaint in the Appellate Court against the decision of the Nasimi District Court.
