EYNULLA FATULLAYEV SENDS LETTER TO PRESIDENT OF FRANCE

Editor-in-chief of “Gundelik Azerbaijan” and “Realniy Azerbaijan” Newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev addressed a letter to the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.

The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by Eynulla Fatullayev`s father Emin Fatullayev who visited imprisoned editor-in-chief in prison#17 on 22 September.According to Emin Fatullayev, Eynulla Fatullayev does not have any complaints about prison conditions or his health.
“In his letter, Eynulla wrote to the president of France about restrictions in the area of freedom of speech and the unfounded arrest of journalists in Azerbaijan asking him not to remain indifferent to these issues,” said Emin Fatullayev.
Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realny Azerbaijan" newspapers' editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on 21 April 2007 for insulting honor and dignity.  Later he was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment on 30 October 2007.
