Vasatet Zahidov, the brother of imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Chief Editor Ganimat Zahid, appealed to local and international human rights organizations, the Baku-based diplomatic missions of foreign countries and the Baku offices of international organizations.
Zahidov asks that the structures take measures to secure the release of his brother.
Recall that on 7 March 2008 G. Zahid was convicted of hooliganism and infliction of minor bodily harm, and sentenced to four years of imprisonment. The case stems from an altercation that occurred on 7 November 2007 in front of Azerbaijan Publishing House, where “Azadlig” Newspaper’s editorial office is located. Many people believe that the altercation was actually an act of provocation. IRFS observers monitored Zahid’s court trial and registered numerous shortcomings.
