The consideration of Intigam Aliyev’s lawsuit against Lawyers Colleague (LC) to consider the failure to accept him to Lawyers Colleague’s membership unfounded, and the lawsuit of LC against Intigam Aliyev to defend business image was launched on 22 July, in the Nasimi district Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Shahin Abdullayev after 3 years and 7 months. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by I.Aliyev.
During the hearing I.Aliyev said that the hearing was postponed and delayed several times due to the motions of the opposite side. However, I.Aliyev’s motions demanding that LC submit several evidence on the case that would positively affect the trial against him and the members of LC Presidium members be invited as witnesses were not fulfilled. According to I.Aliyev, he was not accepted to the membership of the organization due to his different opinions about law and court system in Azerbaijan.
LC representative Mazahir Sadigov filed a motion to postpone the hearing without giving witness account. Sadigov said that along with their demand for 2000 000AZN against I.Aliyev, they put forth claims regarding the publication of a refutation in connection with articles not conforming to reality in “Law newspaper” where I.Aliyev is the editor-in-chief. Sadigov stated that at present “Law newspaper” does not operate; therefore he needs to consult with the leader of the organization before making a decision in which newspaper the refutation should be published.
I.Aliyev objected to the motion saying that this was another attempt made to delay the hearing.
The judge scheduled the next hearing for 31 July at 11:00 a.m.
