Today, 23 September, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Elchin Gurbanov, a hearing was conducted on the lawsuit of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Chairman Emin Huseynov and employee Rasul Jafarov against the Baku State University (BSU).
Plaintiff Rasul Jafarov, and the representative of the Baku State University Tofiq Sadigov on behalf of the defendant participated in the hearing.
The judge fulfilled R.Jafarov`s motion regarding the participation of the Appeal Commission members, and other people who appealed to the Appeal Commission in the hearing was partially fulfilled. Judge issued a decision for the Commission members Mahammad Imanli and Elshen Nasirli to come to the court to give witness accounts during the next hearing.
Rasul Jafarov said that several rules were violated during the exam and appeal complaint, “The papers were not coded during the exam and we were not allowed to express our objections during the investigation. This casts shadows on the transparency of the exams.”
BSU representative Tofig Sadigov stated that what Rasul Jafarov said is groundless and asked not to fulfill the lawsuit.
The judge scheduled the next hearing for 6 October at 2:30 p.m.
On 8 July 2009 E.Huseynov and R.Jafarov took part in the internal test exam at BSU to get a second degree in law. Huseynov and Jafarov filed a joint lawsuit in court in connection with law violations they faced during the meeting of the Appeal Commission on 10 July.
