HEARING HELD AGAINST NSM AND CHIEF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Today, 23 June, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Araz Huseynov, a hearing took place on the lawsuit of “Azadlig” Newspaper Director Azer Ahmadov against the National Security Ministry (NSM) and Chief Prosecutor’s Office’s Investigation Department Head on Grave Crimes Eldar Ahmadov to declare the eavesdropping of his phone calls unfounded. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Ahmedov’s lawyer, Media Rights Institute employee Fariz Namazli.

Namazli noted that representatives of both parties took part in the hearing and they filed a motion to “change the legal basis of the lawsuit”. The judge fulfilled the motion and scheduled the next hearing on this case for 24 June at 9:30.
A. Ahmadov filed this lawsuit because his phone calls were eavesdropped on when an investigation was in progress into the case of “Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil. Ahmadov demands that eavesdropping on his phone calls be considered unfounded and he be paid compensation for moral damages.
