Yesterday, 6 October, in the Baku Appellate Court, a hearing took place on the appeal of the imprisoned "Tolishi Sado" (Voice of the Talish) Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Novruzali Mammadov.
The hearing was closed this time. N. Mammadov’s defense lawyer Hilal Mammadov told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
According to H. Mammadov, N. Mammadov’s other defense lawyer Ramiz Mammadov had filed a protest against the court staff (A. Abdinbayov, R. Safarov, G. Mammadov) during the previous hearing. The court didn’t fulfill this motion and scheduled the next hearing for 17 October at 11:00 am.
"Tolishi Sado" (Voice of the Talish) Newspaper Editor-in-Chief, National Academy of Sciences' Department Head Novruzali Mammadov was arrested by the National Security Ministry on 2 February 2007 and then was sentenced to ten year of imprisonment. N. Mammadov was accused under articles 274 (being a traitor) and 283 (inciting national, racial, and religious hatred).
