HEARING ON “KORRUPSIYA VA JAMIYYET” JOURNAL’S LAWSUIT POSTPONED

Today, 12 June, in the Binagadi District Court, under the chairmanship of judge Allahveren Hasanov, a hearing was scheduled to take place on the lawsuit of “Korrupsiya va Jamiyyet” Journal’s Editor-in-Chief Mammad Ahmedoglu against the Press Council.

However, the hearing was postponed, because for the third time a representative of the defense did not attend. The judge said this was because the chairman of the Press Council is currently abroad for work. Therefore, the judge scheduled the next hearing on this case for 19 June at 4:00 p.m.
“Korrupsiya va Jamiyyet” Journal was included on the list of ‘racketeering newspapers unveiled recently by Azerbaijan’s Press Council. M. Ahmedoglu says that his journal is not involved in racketeering. Therefore he has appealed to the Binagadi District Court asking the Press Council to publish a refutation and pay 250,000 AZN for moral damages.
