IRFS EMPLOYEES NOT PERMITTED INTO OPEN COURT HEARING

Today, in the Surakhani District Court, under the chairmanship of Nurredin Musatafayeva, NGO representatives, including employees of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, were not permitted into a court hearing on the case of Azerbaijan citizen Sayara Haydarova.

Police who were standing outside the court building told IRFS employees they would inform them when the court hearing started and let them in. However, they ultimately only allowed S. Haydarova and her mother into court and conducted a quick hearing.
Heydarova was imprisoned on spurious charges of beating four men, but was released last March before International Women’s Day.
