Jailed editor of Tolishy Sado newspaper, Hilal Mammadov has become the first recipient of the Isakhan Ashurov award. The award, founded by Institute for Peace and Democracy in the memory of human rights lawyer Isakhan Ashurov, will each year be given to individuals who have contributed to the cause of human rights. Hilal Mammadov, who remains in pre-detention for his human rights activity, was announced a winner at a today ceremony in the packed El political movement office in Baku. Mammadov’s lawyer Ramiz Mammadov received the prize on behalf of journalist.
