Journalist reports death threat

Yafez Akramoglu, correspondent of the RFE/RL’s Azerbaijani Service (Radio Azadliq), was threatened with death on May 10th, the journalist himself informed the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) on May 15. According to Akramoglu, it happened while he was preparing reportage about Nakhchivan residents living in Istanbul.

“I was harassed by an employee of the Nakhchivan’s Ministry of National Security nicknamed Shahin (falcon). He came to my house together with a group of men and demanded the reportage that I prepared about Nakhchivani people in Turkey. They threatened to kill me if I refused to hand it. But with the help of my flatmates we managed to force the uninvited guests to leave my apartment” said the journalist, and added that because of the threats to his personal safety he returned from Istanbul airport safeguarded by the police.
