Today (7 May) in the Appellate Court, under the chairmanship Rashadat Agayev, a decision was adopted the appeal against Narimanov District Court’s verdict on the lawsuit filed by the Head of Yevlakh region Executive Power Elmar Valiyev and on behalf of “Yevlakh public” against “Khural” Newspaper.
The judge partially fulfilled the claim. The Appellate Court changed the decision adopted by the Narimanov District Court, lowering the fine against “Khural” from 10,000 AZN to 3,000 AZN.
Recall that the plaintiffs appealed to the court because of the “Khural” Newspaper articles “Time is not Aliyev’s but Valiyev’s” (21-27 October 2007), “Elmar Valiyev Deceived the President” (4-10 November 2007), and “Yevlakh LTD Named after Elmar Valiyev” (11-17 November 2007), claiming the articles were based on lies, libel, and blackmailing. They demanded the court to institute a fine in the amount of 150, 000 AZN against the newspaper.
