Media Rights Institute (MRI) considers that the arrest of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade under spurious charges is one of the most serious attacks against freedom of speech in Azerbaijan, according to a statement unveiled by MRI.
These young bloggers, who filmed a satiric footage about an incident that is obvious to anyone in the country, can be sentenced to grave punishment.
“This arrest and silencing of other imprisoned journalists two years ago under the same spurious charges is an obvious example to show that the government has zero tolerance for criticism and that critics are working under big risk in the country,” it is said in the statement.
Media Right Institute calls on the government to avoid these kinds of cruel steps to deviate people from expressing their opinions openly.
Media Right Institute Representative Rashid Hajili emphasized that releasing Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade immediately and restoring their violated rights will be the first wise step in this direction.
“I want the government to release all the imprisoned journalists after this,” added R.Hajili. “We consider that these steps are necessary to eliminate ‘hater of the critical writer’ character that is formed in the public.”
