Today, 30 March, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Elchin Gurbanov, a hearing was held on the lawsuit of "Haji Mazan" LTD's Director Zakir Guliyev to defend his honor and dignity against "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper's Founder and Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev.
The plaintiff's defense lawyer Zaur Ibadov presented the written motion in connection with sending the articles for linguistic examination to the judge. The plaintiff's lawyer Tofig Aslanov stated that there’s no need for expert opinion and therefore asked the judge not to fulfill the motion. "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper's Founder and Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev said that the articles have been written based on views adding that he will introduce evidence to the court during the next hearing.
Judge Elchin Gurbanov announced a consultation and did not fulfill the motion. The next hearing on this case is scheduled to take place on 7 April at 5”00 p.m.
This lawsuit stems from articles "Narcotics Itinerary in the South" published in the newspaper on 14 January 2009 and "Narcotics Itinerary in the South – 2" published in the newspaper on 22 January, 2009. The plaintiff is seeking the publication of a refutation, an apology from the newspaper, and 1 000000 (1 million) AZN for the company in compensation for moral damages from Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev.
