The statement of claim submitted to Sabail District Court reads that, in April and May, investigative materials were published in the national and international media about the real estates of President’s children, close relatives and state officials. In June, Musavat Party appealed to the Prosecutor General to investigate those reports, but has not heard back ever since.

Background: In April 2016, members of ICIJ and Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) published the results of their investigation based on the documents leaked by Mossack Fonseca Company (Panama Papers). The names of state and government heads and officials from more than 50 countries are mentioned in Panama Papers. Among them are the names of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s daughters, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s grandchild and others.

Musavat Party Chairman Arif Hajili appealed to Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov in connection with Panama Papers on June 06, 2016, requesting him to investigate the reports about London-based multi-million-dollar properties of President Ilham Aliyev’s daughters Leyla and Arzu and their cousins (on mother’s side) Mirjalal and Mirjamal Pashayev.
