The Public Union For Human Rights is beginning the implementation of the project: “Selection of political prisoners based on criteria of Council of Europe and United Nations and creation of database of political prisoners in Azerbaijan”, reported Media Forum news website. The project is financed by Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The project will consist of 2 phases. In the first phase, a commission of well-known Azerbaijani lawyers and experts on international law will be formed to identify political prisoners based on international criteria. Following the commission’s final report, the names of political prisoners will be announced, and a political prisoner database will be prepared in 5 languages.
The project agreement was signed by Eynulla Fatullayev, chairman of Public Union for Human Rights and Marit Halsvik Lillealtern, head of the Eurasia and Regional Cooperation Department of Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Public Union for Human Rights was founded by former political prisoner Eynulla Fatullayev in the summer of 2011.
